You all know that when you purchase a product from us, there is a story behind it. The village the fabric was purchased from, the face of the tailor who produced it, and the benefit its production has on the local community.
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could go even deeper, and trace our clothing, as ‘The Gamba Cotton Trail’ would say from seed to product. Dam right it would be cool…just think about that for just one sec…seed to product… wow! Thats farmers,,, then spinners, ,,then weavers,,, then dyers,,,then tailors,,, and then, finally, customers. What a journey, and it is a journey we cannot wait to tell when we team up with the experts in this amazing feat, The Gamba Cotton Trail, find them right here.
They are trying to revive the once thriving Gambian cotton industry, and they are doing it by working with local as far inland as it gets in Gambia, Basse, to The Coastal village of Gunjur, spreading their knowledge, skills and economic benefits across the whole country!
Their story goes something like this…
The cotton farmer in a far easterly Gambian village plants the cotton at the start of the rainy season (juneish). After harvest the cotton is taken to the beautiful ladies of Njau for spinning…by hand by the way! Now the cotton heads to the master weavers to make the beautiful strips of cotton we all know and love. They have their own team of local tailors, dyers, and artists that then make all sorts of beautiful products!
Told you it was amazing.
Their story is so cool and their cotton so beautiful! We absolutely love it, and jumped at the opportunity to work with them when the opportunity came about. We will be bringing you a special collection with their cotton real soon, working with them to tell you its story, from seed to product.
